Endless Farewell
The days dwindle down and my (David's) nerves jangle up. Met this morning at nine with Michael to discuss construction of Baby's room while we're in Kaz. Fruitless trip to Sprint to arrange for global sat phone: $500 for huge phone that needs to have chip replaced...Off to get eye test and glasses, eye test runs long, get scrip but no time to pick glasses. Off to Dr. Kamlet to get Hepatitis A and Tetanus vaccinations. Make it to office by 1:15, leave at 2:30 to meet Chris Hippelli, who just brought back 11 month old girl, Jana, from Uralsk, Kazakhstan, drop off large check for in-country fee. Chris is overjoyed, clearly full of love for her new daughter. I'm all nerves and what's next. At 5, return to office, try to deal with what I can and at 6 head downtown to pick glasses and buy small camera, to counter the one that reminds Candace she once had an SLR and took photography in high school. Meet up with Neil & Nancy at Pete's at 8 with CD for one more farewell. David Geary & Karin Henry arrive as does Tim Stark, prince of heirloom tomatoes and peppers. Peter Z takes good care of all, or something.
